Selling Your Home Tip: What to do with your front door
If you are currently selling your home or thinking about selling, please do no over look one very important area to pay attention to- your front door.
While the buyers agent is fumbling with the lock box to retrieve the key, the buyers are standing near the front door looking around. These impressions are key to capturing the buyers attention. If you have cob webs, a filthy door and rusted security door the buyers impressions are not good. When a buyer sees neglect or repairs needed, they automatically see dollar signs. Yes, the front door may just need a coat of paint and may only cost $10 worth of paint but to the buyer, it could be just the first of a long list of repairs needed. If a seller didn’t put the time into cleaning the front door to make it appealing to buyers- what else did they skip?
I recommend home owners stand at their front door just like a buyer would. What do they see? What could use improvement?
Here are some ideas to make your front porch appealing:
- Clean or repaint the front door
- Add color such as a wreath or a bench or potted flowers
- Remove cob webs and debris
- Wash any windows and repair any damage in the entry way
Seems simple right? It actually is. So don’t skip this step when selling your home. Don’t give your buyer a reason not to buy your home. Remember, most purchasing are bought off emotion. So, make the home as welcoming and inviting as you can.
